Perceptual Quality of Internet Telephony over IEEE 802.11e Supporting Enhanced DCF and Contention Free Bursting

چکیده
As the IEEE 802.11 based internet access is becoming ubiquitos available it is excepted that WLAN will be applied for telephony. In this paper we follow the objective to access whether WLAN allows calls at toll quality. Toll quality is the minimal quality of PSTN-based telephons calls. With simulations we evaluate the MAC protocol modes distribution coordination function (DCF), enhanced DCF (EDCF) and contention free bursting (CFB). We have verifed our simulation model by cross-checking it with the results of other researchers. We present quantitative results of the perceptual quality and enhance the precision of performance evaluation on Voice over Wifi systems.

IEEE 802.11e Wireless LAN for Quality of Service
In this paper, a comprehensive overview of the new features of an upcoming new standard IEEE 802.11e to support Quality of Service (QoS) in Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) is presented. We address Medium Access Control (MAC) enhancements found in the current 802.11e draft specification by emphasizing the differences from the legacy 802.11 standard. New mechanisms for QoS support, namely En...

متن کاملThe Influence of Mac Buffer on the Contention-based Access Scheme with Bursting Option for Ieee 802.11e Wireless Networks
Wireless LANs are increasingly being used for inelastic applications. Currently, there is little support for quality of service in the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol, and IEEE task group E has defined the 802.11e MAC extension. Enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) is a contention-based scheme of the 802.11e standard. To allow a station to transmit more than one frame from a single contention, a...

802.11b The legacy IEEE 801.11 doesn’t support QoS streams with priorities. It since causes some QoS demanding applications such as VoIP, Video streaming to be limited in its usefulness. Enhancements have been made to the MAC layer by the new 802.11e standard to support prioritized and parameterized QoS. The work of this paper is to simulate the new scheme and modify the existing OPNET WLAN MAC...
